The Australian Commonwealth Government spends billions of dollars on goods and services every year. In July 2015 a policy was introduced which formally commits the Commonwealth Government to a procurement target for goods and services from Indigenous businesses.
The Government have set a target that 3% of procurement contracts need to be awarded to Indigenous businesses and are stipulating that every Government portfolio must meet its target by 2020.
The policy is going to create substantial opportunities for Indigenous businesses and help drive financial independence and economic development in regional and remote Australia.
An Indigenous enterprise is a business that is 50% or more owned by Indigenous Australians, Supply Nation, (who have certified Kooya) maintains a list of all businesses that meet this requirement.
